Getting Started

As an affiliate marketer who has been at this line of work for a couple of years, I get asked quite frequently on how one should begin their online careers, and I always start with two items:

1) Be sure that you are willing to write your own content, and write lots of it.

2) Monetize your first attempts at making money online with adsense marketing.

I give these two options because I want my friends and acquaintenances to understand that my "online job" is a lot of hard work, with writing content being the most difficult. But I also want to give the adsense marketing option because it's so very easy to see actual money coming in from your first forays into affiliate marketing. I know I spent several months before I figured out how to get the eBay or Amazon programs to work, so if I had not had those pennies, nickels, and dimes start rolling in within two weeks of building my first site, I probably would not still be here today!

Why Adsense?

So why choose Adsense? Well, it's very easy to implement on a webpage; you basically set it and forget it! Just place your chosen size Adsense on your page, in the spots that you want them, and proceed to work on your content. You can spend more time on researching the keywords you want to use in your content and less time trying to build out product links to place on your page when using Adsense. Adsense also makes it relatively easy to make money with the program. If someone clicks on the Adsense ad, you make money. How's that for simple? eBay, Best Buy, Amazon, and Overstock all require not only your visitor to click the ad, but to also purchase something. Seeing all of those clicks and getting very little earnings is very discouraging, and we do not want that for our first time affiliate marketer!

As far as placement on your webpages, I personally have found that a 468x60 ad at the top with a 336x280 just after the first paragraph work very well for me. You are allowed 3 Adsense ads on each webpage, so I also tend to put another 336x280 just below the content (near the comment area on Wordpress). You may also want to put a 160x600 instead of the last 336x280 sized Adsense ad if you have a 3 column layout for your webpage. It helps to fill out the page a little better until you have enough content to fill that space.

So takeaways from this article: you should use Adsense marketing for your first forays into affiliate as it's very easy to make money with Adsense as a first-time affiliate. It's also a positive experience seeing that your work is paying off (even if it's just a small amount at the beginning).

So, with that in mind, get to work on your content and article writing! I strongly suggest signing up for Hubpages today, if you haven't already, to get a small taste in Adsense marketing! Hubpages is one of the best ways to get your content online and viewed by thousands of people. All you need to do is write great content! Best of luck!

Watch Out for Adsense Youtube Videos

I found a great video below that gives you some good ideas (better than i can write) on how to setup your Adsense ads, keywords, content, etc. Of course, like all affiliate marketers, he wants to sell you something by providing this content, but almost all of this 8 minute 25 second video is full of great quality information.

Please note that if you find yourself watching a video where the "Adsense guru" starts out by showing you his $1,000,000 check from Adsense, then please stop watching that video. In fact, Marcus, the guy in the video below, does a little of this in some of his videos, so I can only promote this one video of his.  Enjoy the video below!
